Reflections on a Winter Internship

Reflections on a Winter Internship

By Erica Gossett (Intern)

While many people spent their winter break getting some rays in the sun on their vacations, I had the opportunity to intern at Fusion Public Relations. On my arrival, Fusion made me feel very welcome and like I was part of the team.

I learned more than I could imagine in the short month I spent here and I am grateful to have been chosen for this opportunity. I received the ultimate hands-on experience by getting involved in all aspects of the company within public relations. Some of my tasks included monitoring for client coverage, generating blog ideas for clients, participating in conference calls with the team, one-on-one brown bag lunch sessions with employees of Fusion, attending educational sessions, and writing weekly blog posts (which were my favorite).

During the brown bag lunch sessions I had one-on-one conversations with Fusion employees about select topics such as pitching, networking and social media. They gave me tips and advice on how to improve my PR skills that were very helpful! I was always kept busy with different tasks that would make the day fly by! I enjoyed my experience here and definitely recommend it to future PR tech savvy interns.

My internship at Fusion allowed me to view PR from a whole new aspect besides what I learned in college. Fusion helps create brand visibility, helps companies launch, and creates success for a variety of clients in different industries. I attended educational sessions with the team that delved into vital PR skills like establishing a strong social media presence, the alternatives to press releases and the importance of thought leadership.

Getting the chance to create my own blog post for the Fusion blog once a week gave me the chance to think outside the box. I was able to create a post from different topics about public relations, social media and technology.

I am graduating college in May and with the skills and concepts I’ve gained at Fusion, I am excited to step foot into the real world!
