Overdressed But Never Overwhelmed

Overdressed But Never Overwhelmed

by Giles Taylor, Intern (@gilescatherine)

I’m into my second week here at Fusion and after all of the new challenges that have been put in front of me, this blog was the most feared. I have never been one to share my experiences publicly, even Twitter was a big step for me, but I always love new challenges so, here we go!

As I look back I can not believe how much I have already learned. As I walked into the office on my first day, I was feeling under prepared and way overdressed but have found only one of these to be true. I had been overwhelmed with the feeling that I would be lost due to my lack of experience in PR, however I found that I had misled myself. Everyone has been very helpful with explaining what it is that needs to be done and they always give me positive feedback on how to improve it.

These past several days, I have really been put to work — this is not one of those internships where you just shove papers around, thank goodness! I have learned how to do editorial calendars (extensively), create contact lists, prepare a briefing book and create an analyst tracking grid. I found out that Fusion is currently bringing on a new “green” client (as it happens “going green” seems to be a new passion of mine) so I am hopeful that I will have the opportunity to work on that a bit and learn more about that process over the next several weeks.

Good for you. I only met with Fusion PR for a couple of days, but I learned a lot about the importance of innovation, creativity, and hard work from Bennie, Meghan, and Stephen. I’ll be interested to read more of your experiences. Best of luck to you.
