Is the web soon to be a thing of the past?

Fifteen years ago the internet was created and allowed people easy access to an abundant amount of information. The way people gather their information is now evolving again. A new report by Flurry, a mobile analytics firm, claims that users are now spending more time on mobile apps than surfing the web.

According to Flurry in June 2010 users spent 64 minutes on the web and only 42 minutes on mobile apps. In December 2010 the amount of time spent on mobile apps continued to grow, with 66 minutes spent on mobile apps and 70 minutes on the web. Then in June 2011 for the first time ever, the amount of time consumers spent on mobile apps exceeded their time on the web. Users spent 74 minutes on the web and 81 minutes on mobile apps. The report reveals that consumers are now spending 9% more of their time using mobile apps than the internet.

Mobile app usage has grown an astounding 91% since last year. The method in delivery of information to consumers has altered from the web to apps that perform a specific task. There are now around 425,000 different apps. There are apps that do just about anything imaginable, even one with fake bubble wrap to pop. One of Apple’s trademarks is “There’s an app for that.” With the amount of people’s time engrossed in apps, is the web soon to be a thing of the past?
